Introduction of our report

1. Introduction
    1.1 Purpose
This report aims to present the internal & external marketing strategies that possess the potential to generate awareness and interest of the SP community to support and contribute to the Solar Living Lab (SLL) project. Furthermore, external marketing is more focused in convincing business enterprises to help in sponsoring for the SLL. In return, SP will help to display and promote their products and brands in the SLL. Artist impression of SLL is shown in Appendix A1.
1.2 Background
Solar Living Lab, also known as the SLL, was first launched in July 2011. This project is a collaboration of 4 different schools in Singapore Polytechnic (SP), namely the School of Architecture & the Built Environment, School of Chemical & Life Sciences, School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering and School of Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering. This project aims to build an eco-house that is high performance and self-sustainable by using solar energy. The SLL is due to be completed in 2014. Thus, SP aims to be the first Singapore Polytechnic to build an eco-house and enter Solar Decathlon.
The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon is an award-winning program that challenges collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency.
The purposes of Solar Decathlon are:
·         Educates student participants and the public about the many cost-saving opportunities presented by clean-energy products
·         Demonstrates to the public the opportunities presented by cost-effective houses that combine energy-efficient construction and appliances with renewable energy systems that are available today
·         Provides participating students with unique training that prepares them to enter our nation's clean-energy workforce.
1.3 Objectives
The main objectives of building SSL is to build a living laboratory but also a living classroom that supports current-future teaching and learning for various schools within SP. Besides that, other main objectives of SLL are:
Implementation of Solar Living Lab at SP
demonstrate the multiplicity of possibilities from emerging technologies and products
To provide a venue that acts as a neutral ground where sustainable ideas can be tested and farmed
facilitate future test-bedding & R&D in the area of urban sustainability beyond SP
         SP and Partners branding
         Showcase Partners products and brands
Participate Solar Decathlon 2015 in Washington
